Abuja (Sundiata Post) – The Managing Director Jos Electricity Distribution Company, Engr. Abdu Mohammed has resolved to engage the services of vigilante groups as a solution to curbing the incessant activities of electricity vandals.
It was gathered that there is currently a high rate of electricity thrives, vandalising transformers and other electricity installations, our correspondent reports.
Investigation has also revealed that sacked workers of electricity staff and old staff of National Electric Power Authority (NEPA), have been on rampage stealing electricity installations.
“The only people who will have the boldness to steal electricity installations are professionals who know about it”, a concerned resident who does not want his name on print told our correspondent.
However, resolving to end the menace, Mohammed charged residents to recruit vigilante securities in their localities to checkmate the ugly incidents promising that the Jos DisCo will support any community that will take the move in their four franchise States.
Speaking at a courtesy call by some communities in Plateau State, Kwang and Mangu Hali communities, Mohammed said the best solution to catch these thrives is for residents to take ownership of electricity installations in their localities.
Communicating the same to newsmen in Jos on Tuesday, through the Spokesman of the Company, Dr Friday Adakole Elijah, Mohammed said: “Help us to secure our facilities against vandalism. You can see that about 18 communities are currently having various cases of vandalism”.
Describing the situation as a very serious problem he said it poses a lot of security challenges. “It creates security, social and economic convulsion”, he said.
He Continued: “This is a very serious problem. It is deepening into our resources. It is a thorn in our flesh. Every day, there are cases of vandalism on our network. We will support the vigilantes to help us in curbing the menace.
