…Says 9th Assembly’s pressmen the best he had ever seen in his 24 years as federal lawmaker

Abuja (Sundiata Post) – President of the 9th Senate, Ahmed Lawan has recounted the achievements of the 9th Senate within the four years of his tenure, saying it passed critical but crucial bills which was assented to by President Muhammadu.
Some of these bills signed into law he said, include but not limited to, the electoral Act, Petroleum Industry Act, BOFID, Security And Exchange Act, among others.
This also as he has described the 9th Assembly press men as the best he had ever seen since his 24 years as a federal lawmaker.
Lawan who stated this on Wednesday during the valedictory session with members of the Senate Press Corps, also said that the 9th Senate has been described in diverse ways. But that the truth remains that whether you perform good or bad, it carries a tag.
He however appealed to members of the Senate Press Corps to extend the level of co-operations accorded to the leadership of the 9th Senate to that of the incoming 10th Senate, saying that the co-operation was part of their success.
While speaking on their achievements during his tenure, Lawan revealed that the former President, Muhammadu Buhari assented to 120 bills within the period in view.
He added that the 9th National Assembly had the opportunity to work with one of the best parliamentary reporters in the history of Nigerian parliament.
The Senate President further stated that the 9th National Assembly was able to return the budget to January-December circle on like what it was before they took over in 2019.
However, Lawan reveals that the secret of their success was their ability to work together as Senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and not of parties. He stressed that the unity was instrumental to the many successes recorded during the last four years.
“We achieved much in the 9th Assembly because we were united among ourselves irrespective of our political parties. We resolved to work as Senators of Nigeria and not that of our parties.
“Another aspect was the fact that, you stood by us, you reported us as partners in progress of the project Nigeria. Your relationship with us was cordial and that translated into the action we put in working for the nation.
I want to thank you all for your professionalism in parliamentary reporting.
“With my 24 years as a lawmaker, this 9th Assembly’s pressmen were the best I had ever seen, so I want to appeal to you all to extend the same co-operation you gave us to the incoming leaders of the 10th Assembly because they would need it to succeed also, just the way we did,” he said.
