…Donates Exercise Books To Pupils
By Chibuike Nwabuko
Abuja (Sundiata Post) – The Rotary Club of Abuja CBD on Friday commissioned three toilets project it built and donated to the Central Primary School at Gidan Gimba Community in Karu, Nasarawa State.
This is also as the Club has donated exercise books to the school pupils.
The President of the club, Rotarian Maxwell Amuchie who expressed happiness that they have come here today to commission one of the biggest projects the Club has carried out in the community, charged the people to take ownership and the maintenance of the facilities provided as they cannot come from Abuja to do that for them.
On why the The Rotary Club of Abuja CBD has singled out Gidan Gimba for such a project, Rotarian Maxwell highlighted that every Rotary Club has an adopted community it carries out humanitarian interventions and outreach and Gidan Gimba happens to be our own adopted community. The community is lucky to have Rotary as a partner because not all communities are so lucky.
According to him, “the toilets we have come here to commission is part of our projects. Upon assumption of office as President, I looked at our strategic plan (it’s not a personal decision), there was need to build these classrooms – two blocks of classroom and the Head teacher’s office under construction as you can see they have only two classroom for primary one to six which is grossly inadequate and there is no toilet. As a Club, we do not think that in this time and age, the pupils and teachers should practice open defecation. It’s unhealthy and it can breed disease. So we have to built this three toilets – one for the boys, one for the girls and one for the teachers.”
Max who noted that this is about the second major project the Club has carried out in the community, reminded that the bore hole in the school premises was sank by Rotary Club of Abuja CBD and commissioned in 2020.
Reacting to whether the Club has carried out projects in other communities, the Synergy President said his Club last year partnered with Rotary Club of Abuja Capital Territory to organise a medical outreach at Sabon Lugbe and also partnered again with Rotary Club of Utako to conduct eye screening, eye testing and eye glasses donation in a community in Utako village. Adding that these are the two times they have gone beyond their adopted community.
The Sarki Gidan Gimba Mr Danjuma Audi while commissioning the project with Rotarian Max, hinted that machine used in pumping water from the bore hole is faulty and that they are trying to fix it so that the pupils would be using it to flush the toilets. He thanked the Club for the gesture and prayed God to not just bless them but to also bless their families.
Earlier, the Parent Teachers Association (PTA) chairman, Mr Mohammed Boyi who thanked the Rotary members also asked for God’s blessings upon them and admonished them to be patient with one another.
Rotarian Kate and Rotarian Nwanneka advised the pupils to take their studies seriously and to be of good conduct as they are the leaders of tomorrow. Adding that it’s possible that some of them sitting here today would be president or governor and others.
