Guinness World Records, the renowned authority on record-breaking achievements, has issued a formal warning to Nigerians and others who aspire to break records, following recent attempts by individuals to surpass existing benchmarks.
The cautionary message was shared on Twitter today, advising enthusiasts to adhere to specific guidelines before embarking on their record-breaking endeavors.
The announcement comes in the wake of Chef Hilda Baci’s groundbreaking achievement on June 13th, 2023, where she was officially recognized as the world’s longest cooking individual, having dedicated an impressive 93 hours and 11 minutes to her culinary feat.
This outstanding record stirred up inspiration among many, particularly in Nigeria, with individuals like Chef Dammy from Ekiti State and Chef Adeyeye Adeola from Ondo State aiming to surpass Baci’s record by setting ambitious targets of 120 and 150 hours, respectively.
Additionally, a recent incident involving a Nigerian woman identified as Joyc Ijeoma attempted to break the world record for the longest continuous massage session.
She commenced her endeavour in Lekki, but unfortunately collapsed after 50 hours, falling short of her intended goal of 72 hours.
In response to these endeavors, Guinness World Records dismissed them as futile, emphasizing that record titles must be officially confirmed before any attempts are made.
The organization advised aspiring record-breakers to undergo the necessary application and verification process to ensure the legitimacy and recognition of their achievements.
Taking to Twitter, Guinness World Records shared essential information outlining the procedure to apply for setting or breaking a world record.
In their tweet, the organization urged individuals to have their record titles confirmed by their team before undertaking any record-breaking feats.
The tweet reads as follows: “Polite reminder that you should probably have your world record title confirmed by our team before attempting it. Here’s how our process works.”
