Abuja (Sundiata Post) – The Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JED), has said substandard electricity cables have hampered electricity supply in its franchised States of Bauchi, Gombe, Benue and Plateau.
The energy company said lower quality cables which have flooded the market are the reasons for poor power supply in most premises.
To change the narrative, the management of JED on Tuesday engaged a local manufacturing company, NOCACO, to produce branded cables for the energy company.
Speaking during the sealing of agreement in Jos, the Managing Director JED, Engr. Abdu Mohammed, said only quality cables can guarantee effective distribution of electricity to residents, adding that no customer who wants to extend electricity to its residence will be allowed to use any other cable once the cable company starts manufacturing.
“NOCACO would produce customized cables with our company’s name and colour inscribed on it for security purposes.
“As soon as we take possession of the cables, no customer will be allowed to use any other type of cable on our network”, Mohammed said.
He continued: “To avoid substandard cables, specifications will be given to the cable company who has a good reputation for producing quality cables in the country.
“We will replace all antiquated cables to eliminate technical losses that are currently bedeviling the company”, he said.
Responding, the Chairman of NOCACO, Mr. Jamilu Muhammad promised to meet the specified standard on schedule.
He commended the JED management for the initiative which he said would greatly enhance stable and quality electricity supply.
