MAKURDI (Sundiata Post) – The Benue State Government plans to demolish all illegal structures in the state capital, Makurdi.
This was disclosed by the state’s Commissioner for Works and Housing, Mr. Itiza Imojime, on Thursday when he briefed reporters on the results of the State Executive Council meeting that took place in Makurdi on Wednesday.
“The State Executive Council has approved the demolition of all illegal structures and those built on waterways in Makurdi,” he said.
Imojime noted that the council had approved the demolition of all buildings that had failed structural and integrity inspections.
He claimed that the choice was made to address recurring flooding in the state capital as well as to secure the protection of people and property.
According to Imojime, the council also urged young people in the state to provide their information for recording to the Ministry of Youths, Sports, and Creativity.
According to him, the goal was to create a database that could be utilised for efficient planning and management, particularly for state-sponsored youth programming.
He added that the council was preparing to announce a programme that would meet the people’s immediate needs.
Imojime mentioned that the state’s lack of infrastructure was another issue the government was attempting to address.
