Abuja (Sundiata Post) – Bayelsa State Governor and the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Senator Douye Diri, has raised concerns over pockets of violence in some parts of the state, as voting to elect the governor of the state begins.
The Governor, who stated that the conduct of the governorship election in comparative terms to other has improved, noted that the party was still monitoring happenings in other units in the state.
Diri, who cast his vote at his Kalama-owei Wari Unit 4, Ward 6 Sampou in Kolokuma/Opokuma LGA, at about 8.40am, commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for their swift responses in areas with issues.
On the issue of the abduction of INEC staff, he disclosed that they escalated the incident, and he was happy that INEC has updated the whole country on the issue happening in Bayelsa State.
He said “Also the issue of boat that capsized, and we appreciate INEC for the prompt response.
I think this is an improvement compare to other elections i have participated, it was very seemless, very fast and if it continues like this i want to believe INEC is improving on the training of their personnel handling the process, just like the improvement on their facilities.
We are still putting our hears to the happenings at other units. We are satisfied with what is happening here.
For concerns about Bassambiri (Opu Nembe), where PDP party members and agents are stopped from going to Nembe. That’s a very serious concern, our party has written an official letter to the Chairman of INEC. They have to take drastic measures to ensure our people participate in the process.
What we call for is a free and fair process, where the BVAS are used like what i have just done. Let the accreditation be by BVAS in Nembe Bassambiri, with special attention to the area. PDP members are chased out of their community.
We have been raising the issue on the violent character of Timipre Sylva, over the years every election he’s involved in is always marred by violence, experience lawlessness, and even in Nembe Bassambiri, he has been the one behind the violence there.
