ABUJA (Sundiata Post) – The management of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) is inching closer to consummating its deliberate bid to reposition the Bureau for administrative and operational efficiency
Reports shows that the CCB, which is a critical government agency for bolstering the anti-corruption fight of the federal government, is undertaking of a review of its achievements, areas of strength and weakness under the previous administration.
The objective is to strengthen the institution for the achievement its mandates as constitutionally prescribed and circumscribed.
Sources close to the CCB hinted that the Bureau could not achieve much under the immediate past chairman, Professor Mohammed Isah due to funding constraint.
Professor Isah had, at the expiry of his tenure recently, handed over to the most senior commissioner in the Bureau, Barrister Murtala Kankia, who occupies the position in acting capacity, in line with the provisions of the Act establishing the Bureau.
As learnt that the leadership of the Bureau is now focusing on how to interface with the National Assembly for increased budgetary allocation to effectively drive the pursuit of the mandates of the Bureau.
Besides, a source close to the development at the Bureau told our correspondent that the leadership is in the process of undertaking a staff audit with a view to identifying the weak points in the staff link as a prelude to possible employment to beef up the staff strength for the job at hand.
It was learnt that once the staff strength is beefed up, the Bureau would be able to easily deploy them countrywide to begin the verification of compliance with the code of conduct by civil servants and public office holders, especially in the aspect of asset declarations.
