FRSC special marshals unit lauds FG’s maintenance of Niger Bridge

ONITSHA (ANAMBRA) – Mr Ben Osaka, the Coordinator of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Special Marshals and Partnership in Anambra, has commended the Federal Government for carrying out massive maintenance works on the Niger Bridge.

Osaka who spoke in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Onitsha, said the action showed that the Federal Government had a listening ear.

He said that the pillars of the bridge were recently re-strengthened; some of its bolts and washers replaced and tightened; new iron beams fitted to support the structure and the entire structure repainted.

Osaka who spoke during a public education exercise at the Niger Bridge-Head axis in Onitsha, as part of its special Easter patrol, noted that the bridge was now stronger than ever.

He also noted that it now radiated as it used to be during the early 70s.

Osaka urged the government to ensure timely completion of the second Niger Bridge in order to provide lasting solution for traffic congestion between Anambra and Delta states.

“Federal Government has done noble and has given solution to the cries of many Nigerians over the unusual shaking of the existing Niger Bridge.

“However, the second Niger Bridge is very important to be completed since it is the best and maybe the only veritable solution to put an end to the traffic jams between Onitsha in Anambra and Asaba in Delta.

“And these communities are of strategic importance to the South-East and South-South people, “he said.

Osaka said that the special marshals education of motorists centred  on the use of seat belts and need to stop overloading, both human and goods. (NAN)
