In the early hours of Thursday, approximately 40 gunmen raided Kawu Community in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, abducting 23 individuals, including Alhaji Alhassan Sidi Kawu, a former Ward Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in the FCT.
Kawu Community, which shares boundaries with Kaduna and Niger states, witnessed the assailants’ arrival from the Kuyeri Forest in Kaduna State on Wednesday. The Deputy Speaker of the Bwari Area Council and community councillor, Abdulmumini Zakari, informed the media that victims included the wife and son of the District Head, Alhaji Abdurrahman Danjuma Ali, a former Ward Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, and his four children.
Zakari detailed the attackers’ modus operandi, stating, “They divided themselves into groups, with some entering the palace of the District Head, abducting his son and wife. Others targeted the residence of Alhaji Alhassan Sidi Kawu, the Marafa of Kawu and former PDP Chairman, abducting him and his four children.”The bandits further targeted the compound of Sarkin Pawan Kawu, Gambo Pawa, abducting him, his two wives, and several children.
Efforts to obtain comments from the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, were unsuccessful as she did not respond to calls or texts from PUNCH Metro as of the time of this report.
