The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a stern demand for the resignation of Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, citing his perceived failure to deliver on his duties nine months into his tenure.
Speaking at a press briefing in Port Harcourt, the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the party, Sir Tony Okocha, expressed disappointment in the governor’s performance, stating that he has demonstrated incompetence and a lack of vision for the state.
Okocha highlighted the party’s assessment of Governor Fubara’s activities over the past nine months, describing them as “decrepit, clueless, visionless, directionless, and rudderless.” He emphasized that the APC’s call for resignation is not biased and is aimed at bringing attention to the state’s governance issues.
Drawing comparisons with successful governance models, Okocha pointed out the importance of continuity in government policies and programs. He lamented the deviation of Governor Fubara from the New Rivers Vision, which he had initially pledged to uphold upon assuming office.
Addressing specific projects, Okocha criticized the lack of progress on initiatives such as the Ring Road project, which he claimed had been conceptualized under a previous administration.
He accused Governor Fubara of extravagant spending on unnecessary events while neglecting essential governance responsibilities, such as convening regular State Executive Council meetings.
In conclusion, Okocha called on Governor Fubara to resign on grounds of incompetence, arguing that the state cannot afford to continue under his leadership. He urged the governor to prioritize the welfare of Rivers State residents and step down for the greater good of the state.
