Soldiers Killing: Army trace militant leader to Bayelsa State

Soldiers have tracked down the alleged militant leader responsible for the recent killing of 16 soldiers in Okuama, Ughelli South Local Government Area, Delta State.

The pursuit led them to the riverine Igbomoturu community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, Bayelsa State. Upon encountering resistance from local youths, the soldiers engaged in a confrontation, resulting in casualties and the destruction of some militant-owned houses.

Arriving in seven gunboats and a passport boat early Sunday morning, the soldiers cordoned off the Igbomoturu community, prompting villagers to flee into the bush for safety. Additionally, troops targeted the Akugbene community in Bomadi Local Government Area, aiming to apprehend suspects who had reportedly sought refuge there.

His presence prompted heightened security measures in the area, with combined security forces deploying armored vehicles and a helicopter for surveillance.

During his visit, Governor Oborevwori held a closed-door meeting with military authorities to discuss the recent violence in Okuama and its aftermath. He emphasized the importance of cooperation between the military, state government, and affected communities in investigating the incident and finding sustainable solutions.

In his remarks, Governor Oborevwori urged calm among the residents of Okuama and neighboring communities, emphasizing the sanctity of human life and the need to uphold peace and justice. He called for a thorough and lawful investigation into the crisis to prevent further escalation and ensure justice for the victims.
