Ondo APC governorship aspirant is dead

Frontline governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Paul Akintelure, has tragically passed away, as reported by Vanguard News in the early hours of March.

Prior to his demise, Akintelure had voiced concerns about threats to his life, both direct and indirect.

In a statement released by his spokesperson, Oladapo Akintelure, on Thursday, March 21, 2023, Akintelure expressed his dismay, stating, “Initially, I hoped these incidents would dissipate over time, yet regrettably, they have escalated to pose a serious threat to my life.”

Despite the threats, Akintelure remained resolute, stating, “The threats against me only strengthen my resolve to stand up for what is right and just. I will not allow fear to dictate our path forward. Let us embrace peace, progress, and unity. Our collective strength lies in our ability to stand together as one, regardless of our differences.”

Akintelure, a medical doctor hailing from Igbotako, Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State, previously served as the deputy governorship candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) alongside Rotimi Akeredolu. He also contested the senatorial election but was defeated by the Peoples Democratic Party candidate.

His untimely death comes amidst the buildup to the Ondo governorship election, casting a shadow over the political landscape of the state.
