Former Director-General of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council, Akin Osuntokun, emphasized that Peter Obi, the potential Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the 2023 presidential election, would only consider returning to the PDP if offered the presidential ticket.
This statement comes in response to Atiku Abubakar’s recent remarks suggesting his support for Obi if the PDP decides to nominate him in 2027.
Osuntokun highlighted Obi’s significant support base in the last election and argued that accepting a lesser role, such as a running mate, would be unrealistic given his political appeal.
He stressed that Obi’s return to the PDP hinges on the assurance of being offered the party’s presidential ticket, as anything less would risk alienating his substantial youth support base and undermine his political standing.
