KATSINA (SUNDIATA POST)- The Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Faruq-Umar, has etolled the commitment of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) for promoting national unity.
The emir made the commendation in Daura on Saturday during an environmental sanitation exercise embarked upon nationwide by the NYSC.
Represented by the Bebejin Daura Alhaji Abba Yahaya-Baure, the emir said NYSC remained the most noble scheme ever created in the country because it sustains the nation’s unity.
He, therefore, assured the emirate council’s commitment to continue to collaborate with the NYSC for the development of the state and the country in general.
He also commended the Director-General (D-G) of the NYSC, Brig.-Gen. Y.D Ahmed for initiating the nationwide environmental sanitation exercise.
Faruq-Umar recalled, “There was a time when some people were advocating the scheme to be scrapped, I told them that they didn’t know what they were talking about.
“Therefore, I urge you to take this chance seriously. You may not understand what I’m talking about, until you are through with the service.
“So, Nigeria is here today to clean Daura, I said this because when you talk of NYSC, you are talking about Nigeria.” .
Faruq-Umar expressed happiness that as part of the NYSC’s gesture, they were at his Palace to commence the exercise aimed at motivating the people of Daura in getting a clean and healthy society.
“On the other hand, you are supporting us to be productive, because when you have a healthy society, they will be able to be productive, and the economy of the nation will improve,” he said.
Earlier, the NYSC Coordinator in the state, Hajiya Aisha Mohammed, said the exercise was initiated by the scheme’s director-general to raise awareness on the need for environmental sanitation.
According to the coordinator, the decision for initiating the exercise was also based on the report of the scheme’s recent medical outreach nationwide.
She explained that during the medical outreach, most of the people were treated for diseases related to poor hygiene and sanitation.
Mohammed said that the scheme deemed it fit to embark on the awareness campaign so as to have a very clean environment..
The NYSC coordinator pointed out that choosing Daura for the inauguration of the exercise was based on its positive disposition due to the support they have been receiving.
She described the emirate and the entire people of Daura as ‘NYSC and youths friendly’. (NAN)
