OSOGBO (SUNDIATA POST)- Some residents in Osogbo, on Thursday, expressed happiness over the peaceful conduct of the protest in Osun.
A cross-section of the residents, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Osogbo, said that their happiness was because the protest was not characterised by violence, destruction of property and loss of lives.
According to them, commercial activities were not impeded in spite of the protest.
A NAN correspondent who monitored the situation in some of the markets in Osogbo town showed that the business environment was generally peaceful in different parts including Alekunwodo, Ota-efun and Igbonna.
Similarly, motorists, the popular mini-buses known as “Korope,” and commercial motorcycle operators (Okada riders) conveying passengers to their various destinations, went about unhindered.
NAN reports that security personnel including the police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Amotekun Corps and Department of State Services were deployed in strategic locations to ensure no security breach.
Meanwhile, normalcy has returned to the popular Nelson Mandela Freedom Park were the protesters gathered in the morning for the protest, with everyone going about his or her
business activity.
A barber, Abiodun Rasheed, told NAN that the protesters were very orderly in line with the laid down regulations by the authorities.
Rasheed, while commending the protesters, also advised them to avoid anything that could trigger any form of violence.
Also, Mrs Folayemi Ajao, a civil servant, said she went to work, but had to leave on time because of the uncertainty surrounding the protest.
Ajao called for calm and urged the protesters to show their grievances in a peaceful manner to avoid any infiltration by hoodlums who were bent on causing mayhem.
A telecommunication business owner, Mr Abdullazeez Ahmed, expressed concern over the hardship and urged government at all levels to address the challenges in the country.
Ahmed said that government and the protesters should employ dialogue for amicable resolution of the problem. (NAN)
