The bye-election petition tribunal in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, has nullified the election of Engr Simon Atigwe, the House of Representatives member representing Igboeze North/Udenu Federal Constituency.
The tribunal declared Hon Dennis Agbo of the Labour Party as the rightful winner of the rerun election held on February 3rd, 2024.
This ruling comes after Agbo initially won the seat during the 2023 general election, only for the Court of Appeal to annul his victory and order a rerun in ten polling units.
The petition that led to Agbo’s removal was filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, who argued that the results from the affected units did not include the APC’s scores. Before the rerun was ordered, Agbo was leading the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate by over 10,000 votes.
