LAGOS (Sundiata Post) – The Committee For the Protection of Civil Rights (CPCR) has condemned the Lagos State Police Command over the recent arrest of youths linked to the #EndBadGovernance protest held in the state few weeks ago.
This was contained in a statement issued by the chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the group, Comrade Taiwo Adesanya.
The group further stated that “For the past 10 days, security operatives have clamped down on suspected leaders of the last protest in Agbado/Okeodo and Ifako/Ijaiye local council areas of Lagos State.
“These operatives have also mounted an intensive manhunt for several youths who coordinated the protest in Agbado area of the state.
“We believe that one Precious Odigie, a youth residing in the area, who has been missing in the past few days must have been arrested by the Police. Information available to us indicates that Odigie was apprehended by plain clothes policemen while alighting from a commercial tricycle in front of his house.
“We vehemently condemn the activities of the Police in this regard since the arrested youths and those being hunted only exercised their constitutional right to freedom of speech and assembly.
“We have already instructed our lawyers to approach the courts for a restraining order against the ongoing illegal arrest of #EndBadGovernance protesters by the Police and other security agencies in the state”.
