The two major laboratories being operated by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) have been accredited to international standard, the agency’s Director-General, Dr. Paul Orhii hinted on Tuesday.
The NAFDAC’s Mycotoxin and Pesticides Residues Laboratories located at Oshodi in Lagos have obtained the ISO 17025 accreditation conducted by the American Association of Laboratory Accreditation.
With the accreditation project sponsored by United Nations Industrial Development (UNIDO) concluded, the two laboratories are now launched into the league of internationally recognised and respected laboratories.
Orhii who described this feat as another major breakthrough in the agency’s regulatory activity, added that with the ISO 17025 accreditation of the two laboratories, value-added agricultural exports tested and certified by NAFDAC would now be accepted internationally.
He said some other laboratories of the agency are also undergoing international accreditation which would greatly boost current efforts to get some pharmaceutical companies to obtain World Health Organization (WHO) Pre-qualification.
