Abuja, – Mr Ferdinand Anikwe, the Director-General of the Centre for Black and African Art and Civilization (CBAAC), has called on Nigerians to unite and develop a home-grown solution to the nation’s problems.
Anikwe, who made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja, said there were innumerable problems facing the country.
“There is a need for thorough understanding between the government and the governed.
“We must strive to understand our roles very well because everything we do is steeped in our cultures.
“There is a linkage that connects our past to our present and because also nature abhors a vacuum, there must be a synergy between our roots and our present.
“This is the only way that we as a people with diverse cultures can have direction and know where we are headed as a collective.
“The divorcing of our culture from our present way of life will make us look like a nation with amnesia,’’ he said.

Anikwe advised Nigerians to tap into the different cultures and traditions to find ready-made solutions to the problems and conflicts bedevilling the country.
He also said that common frictions in the land could be avoided if people learn to appreciate the ways of life of others.
“Ultimately, we need to truly embrace ourselves as a people if we hope to foster our national unity.
“This would lead to greater harmony and peaceful co-existence amongst the different peoples and enhance more rapid and comprehensive development throughout the nation.
“We must strengthen our understanding to actualise our unity in diversity.
“The things that make us different should not divide us, rather, they should help to bind us together,’’ Anikwe said.. (NAN)
