The Federal Government has clarified that it is not responsible for the recent fuel price hike, attributing the increase to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
The rise in fuel prices, from N897 to N1,030 in Abuja and N855 to N998 in Lagos, has sparked public outrage.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, explained that under the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), the government no longer controls fuel prices. He attributed the hike to global market instability and the Middle East crisis, stating that NNPCL can no longer cover losses since the fuel subsidy ended in May 2023.
Idris urged Nigerians to be patient, assuring that prices would eventually drop.
