The internal crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has escalated as a faction of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) has suspended Acting National Chairman Amb. Umar Damagum, appointing the party’s Treasurer, Yayari Ahmed, as his replacement.
This development was confirmed in a statement issued by PDP National Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, in Abuja on Friday. The statement read: “Following the suspension of His Excellency, Amb. Illiya Damagum as the Acting National Chairman of our great Party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the National Working Committee (NWC) has approved the appointment of Alhaji Yayari Ahmed Mohammed as the Acting National Chairman.”
The statement emphasized that the appointment takes immediate effect, in line with the PDP Constitution (amended in 2017). The NWC also urged all party organs, leaders, key stakeholders, and members to stay focused as they prepare for the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for Thursday, October 24, 2024.
