Abuja (Sundiata Post) – Joe Biden will speak from the White House this afternoon after Donald Trump’s election victory.
The president has already issued a written statement, but this will be the first time he has spoken publicly since the result was confirmed.
Newsmen says it’s unlikely Biden will strike either an apologetic tone with his remarks, despite the Democrats’s failure to regain office.
“I’d be surprised if there was an apology. What can he say? Apart from what we’ve heard from Kamala Harris, the Democrats have been deafening in their silence responding to this result,” David says.
“That’s partly because it has been so decisive, much more decisive than the pollsters had been suggesting in the run-up to the election.
“The one thing we do know about Joe Biden is that he’s been very gracious in tone by telling Donald Trump that he wants him to come and visit the White House to talk about how the transfer of power will take place.
“He’s also indicated at a very early stage that unlike Donald Trump four years ago, he fully intends in taking part, or at least attending, the inauguration of Donald Trump on 20 January.”
Biden’s remarks are scheduled for around 4pm UK time – we’ll bring you the key lines as they happen later.
