The Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has announced an indefinite suspension of all state revenue collections, especially in motor parks and other designated areas, until further notice.
Also, the Governor instructed the State Commissioner of Police to apprehend any individuals who violate this directive.
This directive was announced in a statement released yesterday by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua.
Okpebholo, who was sworn into office on Tuesday, indicated his plans to reassess the revenue collection procedures in the near future and to decide on subsequent actions.
“The collection of revenues in the State has been suspended indefinitely. Anyone seen collecting revenues on behalf of the State Government will be arrested.
“The Commissioner of Police is hereby ordered to arrest anyone who flouts this directive and collects any form of revenue on behalf of the State Government.
“The Governor will soon address the issues and concerns raised and issue new directives. Until then, no one is authorized to collect revenues on behalf of the State Government,” the statement noted.
