MARARABA – A woman, Uchena Ogbodo, on Thursday prayed a Grade 1 Area Court in Mararaba, Nasarawa State to dissolve her 18-month-old marriage to Ifeanyi Ogbodo, 32. Uchena, who resides at Aso Pada, Nasawara State, prayed the court to dissolve, alleging
that the husband assaulted her 53-year-old father, Mr Sunday Udegba.
She told the court that some months into the marriage, her husband’s attitude towards her changed completely for the worse.
The mother of one said that her husband had no regard and respect for her family.
“My husband slapped my father, pushed him to the ground and tore his clothes. He accused my dad of sending me to steal his money.
“My father is a palm wine dealer. He has his own money and has never sent me to steal money from him,’’ she submitted.
“He treats me like a slave and does not provide for our 11-month-old baby; I cannot continue with such a man, I want the court to dissolve the marriage.’’
In his response, the husband, who is a businessman, denied the allegations.
“She normally steals money from me and takes it to her parents.’’
The presiding judge, Mr Albert Maga, adjourned the case until June 12 for hearing.
Udegba instituted a criminal case against the son-in-law on Feb. 26, accusing him criminal force, intimidation and assault.
Ifeanyi pleaded not guilty and the case is still on. (NAN)
