UVURU, Mbaise (Sundiata Post) – The people of Uvuru in the Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State have set up an honours award, the PODIU Award and Hall of Fame for distinguished indigenes and non-indigenes who have made contribution to the development of the area.
Dr Chimaroke Ben Nnaji, President-General of Uvuru Communities Development Union (UCDU), in a statement made available to Sundiata Post on Friday, said the five Traditional Ruling Councils of Uvuru Ikedinairi approved the honours ahd and award for the promotion of progress and development of the area.
According to the statement the PODIU Award will be given by UCDU at the Bia Were Oji Uvuru festival every three to five years.

ESTABLISHMENT OF PILLAR OF DEVELOPMENT IN UVURUIKEDINAIRI AWARD, UVURU HALL OF FAME AND UVURU DEVELOPMENT ADVISORY COUNCIL:
UCDU wishes to inform Nde Uvuru and the general public that the Five Traditional Ruling Councils in Uvuruikedinairi have approved the established of the above Honours/ Awards for the promotion of our progress and development and they enjoin nde Uvuru to embrace and support them.
PODIU AWARD: PODIU is an acronym for Pillar Of Development In Uvuruikedinairi – This is
the highest award that could be given by Uvuru Communities Development Union, UCDU. It is a development award that will be conferred on any individual from and outside Uvuru who has demonstrated extraordinary tangible, physical and verifiable support to the development of Uvuruikedinairi. The considerations/criteria are:
1. A commercial structure in Uvuru or a business establishment employing minimum of Ten (10) Uvuru sons and daughters.
2. Verifiable support in human capital development in Uvuru.
3. Building or support to any UCDU project in Uvuru to a sum not less than ten million Naira (N10,000,000).
4. Engagement in works of charity to any village or community in Uvuru or the entire Uvuru.
5. Must not have a criminal record either in Uvuru or beyond.
6. Must get endorsements or approvals from at least three traditional rulers of Uvuru upon nomination.
7. Must be a consistent supporter of development programs and projects in Uvuru.
What more about the PODIU AWARD?
This award will be bestowed every three to five years to deserving persons. UCDU will send names of prospective awardees to nde Eze for approvals and after ratifications by nde Eze, a letter will be forwarded to the those who scale through and published using different media channels available to UCDU. The awards and decorations will be done on the 26th of December at the Bia were Oji Uvuru festival. Any recipient of this honour/award enjoys putting the acronym PODIU as a suffix. If the person is from Uvuru, he or she is automatically admitted into the Uvuru Hall of Fame and qualifies to be appointed into Uvuru Development Advisory Council. Also, the recipient qualifies for an Uvuru project to be named after him or her whether the recipient is from Uvuru or not.
