Okitipupa Constituency 1 has issued a call to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and all APC leaders in the local government, urging them to consider their constituency in producing the next chairman as the upcoming election approaches.
Leaders from Constituency 1 explained that, according to the established zoning formula, Constituency 2 had the opportunity to produce the outgoing chairman.
Hon. Igbekele Akinrinwa, a former chairman and current caretaker committee chairman, hails from Constituency 2.
His tenure was extended to allow him to complete ongoing projects, resulting in his eight years of service.
As per the zoning procedure, following the successful tenure of Constituency 1, the chairmanship of Okitipupa Local Government is expected to return to Constituency 1.
Constituency 2 previously benefitted from this arrangement with Hon. Igbekele Akinrinwa’s leadership.
The current chairman, Hon. Igbekele Akinrinwa, is from Constituency 2. His dual role as caretaker chairman and elected chairman has raised concerns about the next zoning cycle.
Constituency 1’s leaders are calling for the upcoming chairmanship to be rotated back to them, citing that the people are eagerly anticipating a return to their constituency’s leadership.
In their appeal to the governor and state leaders, Constituency 1 leaders warned that any deviation from the zoning formula could lead to communal tension and unrest.
The people of Okitipupa are strongly backing the idea of returning the chairmanship to Constituency 1, and any decision that ignores this may trigger a crisis.
They further urged Governor Aiyedatiwa to ensure that peaceful arrangements are set in motion for his second term, to avoid potential discord and ensure harmony in the local government.
