GUSAU- The First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu has distributed N50 million to 250 Zamfara elderly citizens under the second edition of Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS).
Distributing the funds in Gusau on Tuesday the, first lady said the programme was designed to enhance the welfare of the aged persons annually.
Sen. Tinubu, who was represented by Zamfara Governor’s Wife, Hajiya Huriyya Lawal, said, 250 citizens aged 65 years and above were carefully nominated from the less privileged, veterans from the defence as well as police officers’ wives as beneficiaries.
“The grant has been increased from N100,000 to N200,000 this year to provide more support to our elderly citizens during festivity,” she said.
She commended the governor’s wives and the coordinator of the scheme in Zamfara for their concerted efforts to make the programme a reality.
While congratulating the beneficiaries, the first lady urged them to prioritise their health even when they celebrate festivities.
She encouraged them to eat well, stay hydrated, do little exercise like walking and “ensure that you have adequate rest.”
A beneficiary, Mallam Garba Sa’idu, appreciated the first lady for the gesture, describing it as one of the sure ways to improve the living condition of senior citizens across the country.
He promised to make judicious use of the money by establishing a small scale business that would support him to live a better life. (NAN)
