AWKA (Sundiata Post) – The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra Command, has deployed 2,409 personnel to checkmate vandalism, crime and criminality during the festive season in the state.
Mr Olatunde Maku, the NSCDC Commandant in the state, said this after a tactical strategic meeting with heads of formations, units, and senior officers, on Thursday at the Command Headquarters in Awka.
Maku said the deployment was to strategic areas prone to threats, including worship centres, event/recreational centres, motor parks, markets and some trouble prone identified routes.
He said that the deployment was also targeted at securing flashpoints, high vulnerability crime areas, critical national, state and local government assets and infrastructure.
“We have ordered the deployment of 2,409 officers across Anambra as part of proactive measures and in line with the directives of Commandant-General of NSCDC, Dr Ahmed Audi.
“The corps has rejig and strengthened operational strategies to checkmate all forms of vandalism, crimes, and criminalities during the festive season.
“The corps will collaborate with other sister agencies in addressing potential threats to ensure a secure environment for Anambra citizens and residents alike,” Maku said.
The Commandant commended the officers for their resilience and gallantry in the fight against crimes and criminality in the state.
He urged them to be civil, but firm in dealing with vandals, hoodlums and miscreants that may attempt to leverage on the yuletide period to cause breakdown of law and order.
Maku also appreciated Gov. Chukwuma Soludo for his support to the corps in performing its statutory constitutional role.
He urged the public to cooperate with the corps and other security agencies to ensure a secured and peaceful celebration.
Maku also appealed to the public to promptly report any suspicious individuals or objects to the nearest NSCDC office in any of the 21 local government areas.(NAN)
