Reno Omokri, an aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan from 2010 to 2015, has explained why he stopped supporting former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and is now backing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Omokri, a pastor and social media influencer, shared his reasons during an interview with Tribune.
Omokri, a long-time ally of Atiku, said his decision was influenced by perceived disloyalty from members of Atiku’s media team, which he helped establish. According to him, he expected Atiku to address the issue but was disappointed by his inaction.
“I helped Atiku Abubakar set up his Media Team, bringing in a few people who performed well, but some turned out to be backstabbers and personally disloyal to me. I expected Atiku to respond because loyalty should be mutual. When he didn’t, I directly informed him that I could no longer remain with him and would align elsewhere,” Omokri explained.
He revealed that his decision to part ways with Atiku was made before the 2023 general election. “I told a trusted intermediary that regardless of the election outcome, I planned to leave Atiku’s camp due to this issue. Atiku struggles to distinguish between loyalty and sycophancy,” he added.
Despite his criticism, Omokri acknowledged Atiku’s leadership qualities, saying
