The Labour Party, through its Caretaker Committee Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, has strongly criticized recent statements made by Mr. Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The remarks, made during a television appearance on January 5, 2025, have been described as incendiary, baseless, and a threat to the life, reputation, and business interests of Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election.
In a press release issued on January 9, Senator Usman expressed deep concern over the tone and content of Mr. Morka’s statements, calling them an affront to democracy and responsible political engagement. She emphasized Mr. Obi’s track record of integrity, competence, and dedication to good governance, stating that such unwarranted attacks reflect the APC’s inability to engage constructively on national issues.
“Mr. Peter Obi, a man of impeccable character, has devoted his life to the service of Nigeria and the pursuit of good governance. To attack him with baseless allegations and threats is an indication of the APC’s inability to engage constructively on the issues that matter to Nigerians,” the statement read.
The Labour Party called on security agencies to investigate the remarks, which they say could incite violence and disrupt national unity. Senator Usman warned that the APC would be held accountable for any harm that comes to Mr. Obi or his associates, stressing that such inflammatory rhetoric undermines productive political discourse and endangers lives.
The party also demanded an immediate public apology from the APC and a retraction of Mr. Morka’s statements. “Anything less would be a tacit endorsement of such reckless and dangerous behavior,” Senator Usman added.
Despite the threats, the Labour Party reiterated its commitment to transparency, justice, and inclusion, vowing to continue supporting Mr. Obi as a symbol of hope and progress for millions of Nigerians. The party urged all political leaders to focus on addressing pressing national issues like insecurity, unemployment, and economic instability, instead of resorting to intimidation or divisive rhetoric.
“Leadership is measured by how we treat one another, even in disagreement. We owe it to Nigerians to promote peace, unity, and responsible political dialogue,” Senator Usman concluded.
