Gurpreet Gogi, a member of India’s Legislative Assembly from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has died in what appears to be an accidental shooting.
According to his family, Gogi sustained a fatal head injury after accidentally shooting himself late Friday night. The incident occurred around midnight, and he was rushed to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, where doctors confirmed his death.
Punjab Police officials have described the shooting as accidental. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jaskaran Singh Teja told reporters, “As per the family members, he shot himself accidentally and sustained bullet injuries to his head. Gurpreet Gogi was declared dead at the hospital, and his body is now at the mortuary in the DMC hospital.”
The DCP stated that the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem examination. “Cause of the death will be clear once the post-mortem reports come,” he added.
Further investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy, according to Gulf News.
Gogi, who joined the AAP in 2022, gained attention after defeating two-time Congress MLA Bharat Bhushan Ashu during the Ludhiana assembly elections.
