LAGOS (Sundiata Post) – The Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) says Mrs Mojisola Meranda’s emergence as the Speaker of Lagos State House of Assebly will inspire women to aim higher.
The Commissioner of WAPA, Mrs Bolaji Dada, said this in a statement by the ministry’s Deputy Director of Public Affairs, Mrs Eloho Aggreh, on Thursday in Lagos.
The commissioner, who paid a courtesy visit on the Speaker, said her new position reflected her leadership qualities, commitment and dedication to the state.
She said it was also a significant step for women in leadership.
Reports that Meranda is the first woman to hold the position of Speaker in the history of the Lagos House.
“This historic achievement is a reflection of Lagos State’s commitment to fostering gender inclusivity and empowering women to occupy leadership positions.
“Meranda’s emergence as the first female speaker is expected to inspire women and girls across the state, encourage them to aim higher and break barriers.
“Her success in leadership will undoubtedly pave the way for greater female representation in governance,” she said.
Dada urged the speaker to showcase the transformative power of women in leadership for a more positive impact on the state.
She pledged the ministry’s support to ensure the speaker succeeded in her office.
The State’s Head of Service, Mr Bode Agoro, who was part of the visit, highlighted the importance of women in leadership, and their ability to influence decision-making at all levels.
Agoro said women’s contributions were crucial, not only in governance but also in shaping society’s progress. (NAN)
