ABUJA (Sundiata Post) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, says Nigeria is committed to fostering effective international partnerships and implementing policies that will balance economic growth among nations.
Tuggar was quoted as saying this in a statement on Friday by Alkasim Abdulkadir, Special Assistant on Media and Communication Strategy to the minister.
This is coming on the heels of the Abu Dhabi Sustainable Week held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to fostering global sustainability.
“The Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week provides an important platform for nations to collaborate, innovate, and accelerate solutions to global sustainability challenges.
“Nigeria is committed to fostering international partnerships and implementing policies that balance economic growth with environmental responsibility.
“As Africa’s largest economy, we recognise our duty to lead by example and champion a sustainable future for our continent and the world.”
The minister highlighted Nigeria’s participation at the event when it showcased its decade-long gas initiative, which positions natural gas as a transitional energy source.
Nigeria also showcased efforts at scaling investments in renewable energy technologies such as solar, wind, and hydroelectric power, while reiterating its ambition to achieve net-zero emissions by 2060.
Other efforts showcased included the government’s ongoing afforestation programmes, renewable energy infrastructure building, and the promotion of climate-resilient agricultural practices.
“Nigeria is willing to partner with international stakeholders to finance and implement innovative solutions in clean energy, waste management, and sustainable urban development.
“Equally, there is the need for increased support for African nations in climate financing, technology transfer, and capacity-building in global sustainability efforts.
“The world is at a critical juncture where the choices made today will define the legacy for future generations.
“Nigeria stands ready to collaborate with global partners to ensure no nation or region is left behind in the quest for a sustainable future,” the minister was further quoted as saying.
He affirmed that Nigeria would remain resolute in ensuring sustainable development, climate action, and energy transition in its role as Africa’s green energy transition promoter bearing in mind the goals of the Paris Agreement and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). (NAN)
