The runway at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport has been temporarily closed for inspection after a Max Air plane had a tyre burst while landing on Tuesday night.
The aircraft, Flight VM1605 (registration 5N-MBD), landed at 10:57 p.m. when the tyre burst occurred. Fortunately, all 53 passengers and crew were safely evacuated without any injuries.
By 4:28 a.m. on Wednesday, the aircraft was moved from the runway to Taxiway B. However, the runway remains closed for inspection, which is expected to cause flight delays. The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has ordered a full inspection of the runway before it can reopen.
Additionally, the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has started an investigation into the incident.
Meanwhile, Max Air has apologized for the inconvenience and assured passengers that updates on flight schedules will be provided.
