Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has written to the State House of Assembly, proposing to present the 2025 budget on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, or any other convenient date within March.
In his letter to Speaker Martin Amaewhule, Fubara referred to a previous unsuccessful attempt on March 12, 2025, when he and his team were denied entry to the Assembly premises despite prior notification. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing the needs of Rivers residents over political differences and expressed readiness to present the budget at a time suitable for the lawmakers.
Fubara’s decision aligns with a Supreme Court judgment and the Assembly’s request for the budget’s re-presentation. He stated, “You may recall my failed visit to the Rivers State House of Assembly on Wednesday, 12th March 2025, for the presentation of the 2025 Rivers State Budget in compliance with the judgment of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.” Despite previous challenges, the governor remains committed to collaborating with the Assembly to ensure the state’s development. citeturn0search5
He further noted, “Against this background, it is my pleasure to again notify you, Mr. Speaker, of my desire and intention to present the 2025 Budget to the Rivers State House of Assembly on Wednesday, 19th March 2025, by 11.00 a.m. or any other date within March 2025 that you may consider convenient.” Fubara concluded by expressing his highest regards to the Speaker and appreciation for considering his request. citeturn0search5
