Bayero assumes duty as new MD of NPA

LAGOS – Malam Sanusi Lamido Ado Bayero on Wednesday assumed duty in Lagos as the new Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority(NPA).

He took over from the former managing director, Malam Habib Abdullahi at a brief handover ceremony at the NPA headquarters office in Marina.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Bayero was appointed as the new Managing Director of the Authority on April 29.

In a brief address, the new managing director said he hoped to work at his best with the staff for the benefit of the nation.

“I hope we work together for the interest of the country because I know that anything that affects this place will affect the larger society.

“We will put in efforts to undertake programmes that will grow the authority through togetherness.

“I solicit for your support; I wish the out-going the best. We will always consult because it is good to consult someone who has been there,” he said.

He thanked President Goodluck Jonathan for the appointment.

In his address the out-going managing described the Ado Bayero as a friend and a brother and pledged his willingness to support him.

He also urged the staff of the Authority to extend the same support he enjoyed to the new managing director for the benefit and growth of the NPA.

“I thank God for His mercy and grace that saw me through the period I served as the Managing Director of the NPA.

“I want you to support and assist him like you did for me. He needs the assistance more because he is new to the industry.

“My support for the new managing director is obligatory, so I am ready to give my assistance.

“Management of interests takes much of the time, but the new managing director must not be allowed to fail.

“We have gone through so many challenges and excitements, but I can say that the challenges are 90 per cent, while the excitement is only 10 per cent.

“I will leave it to posterity to judge our work. It is difficult to say goodbye, but everything that has a beginning will also have an end,” he said.

The former NPA boss thanked Mr President for the opportunity to serve and the unions for their support.

Also speaking, Mr Olumide Oduntan, the Executive Director, Admin and Finance, pledged the management’s support to the new NPA boss. (NAN)
