Many parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have been left without electricity following a power outage announced by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).
In a notice issued on Monday, AEDC attributed the blackout to a technical fault affecting the feeder that supplies electricity to the impacted locations.
The affected areas include Utako, Wuye, Jabi, Airport, NJI, NARSDA, NABDA, Lugbe Shoprite, Riverpark Estate, War College, Dunamis, NIGCOMSAT, Nigeria-Korea Model School, and several other communities. Others impacted are Lugbe Primary, Zuma Steel, Kapwa Village, Tipper Garage, Tudu Wada, Peace Village, Video Club, T-Pumpy Estate, New Site, Aso Drive, NSA, NASS, NJC, FJC, and Supreme Court; Wubassy Barracks, Mambila Barrack, Yara Dua Barrack, DIA, Niger Barrack, Lungi & Agu Irosi Barrack, Forte Royal Estate, and surrounding areas
AEDC assured residents that its technical team is working diligently to resolve the issue and restore power as soon as possible.
This outage follows a planned blackout in February, when the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) carried out maintenance on transformers at the Apo 132/33kV Transmission Substation. That scheduled maintenance caused power disruptions in key areas such as National Hospital, Garki, Area 1, Asokoro, and Apo Legislative Quarters.
At the time, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, explained that the outage was unavoidable due to the inability of Abuja DisCo to receive bulk power supply during the maintenance period.
