Gusau-The Chairman of Employed Youths in Zamfara, Mr Lukman Majidadi, said on Saturday that more than 1,400 youths employed by Zamfara Government since May 2014 had not been paid.
Majidadi told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gusau that the non-payment of one year salaries had affected their living condition.
He said the workers were thoroughly screened and made to write examinations before they were given appointment letters since May 2014.
“The workers were employed from all the 14 local governments in the state and were posted to start work with immediate effect after they were given appointment letters.

“The 1,400 youths employed by Zamfara Government have not been paid since May 2014,’’ he said.
Majidadi said majority of the youths were from poor family backgrounds, adding that the non-payment of their salaries had worsen their living condition.
According to him, some of the workers left their previous jobs to take up the new appointments.
“Some were posted to different organisations, while majority of the youths were posted to schools across the 14 local government areas.
“We believe that some top government officials were not happy that the employment took place without their influence,” Majidadi told NAN.
Also speaking, the association’s Secretary, Mr Ashafa Garba, urged Gov. Abdul’aziz Yari to look into the matter with a view to settling the salary arrears.
He said it was the high time the state governor came to their rescue.
NAN also reports that Yari had already set up a committee to investigate the matter.
