PORT HARCOURT – The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED), on Saturday apologised to its customers in Ikom Local Government Area of Cross River over epileptic power supply.
A statement issued in Port Harcourt by its Manager, Corporate Communications, Mr Jonah Iboma, attributed the situation to “low-load allocation’’ from the Transmission Company of Nigeria.
According to the company, the megawatts of electricity allocated to it is too low to meet its distribution needs.
The statement further explained that the power line linking Ikom and environs was also servicing Abakaliki in Enugu State, which falls under a different distribution company.
“This development at times contributed to delays in clearing some faults from Abakaliki end.
“To this end, we have received a report of an explosion on Abakaliki 132kv voltage-current transformer which is yet to be repaired, and that is purely a transmission problem.
“However, PHED which feels customers pain due to frequent power cuts has deployed a new fault-clearing vehicle and personnel to Ikom to repair the 33kv lines from Abakaliki,’’ it stated.
It further said that the ongoing “systematic load management’’ was to ensure that the limited electricity it received was equitably distributed to all affected residents.
