Kaiama (Kwara) – An Area Court sitting in Kaiama, Kwara State, on Monday convicted two Fulani herdsmen, Manu Juli and Mohammed Bello for theft of a cow.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the suspects were arraigned before the Area Court Judge, Malam Ahmed Yahaya, on charges of criminal conspiracy, trespass and theft.
The judge found them guilty of the charges after he was convinced of the evidence and testimonies of witnesses as presented by the Police Prosecutor, Cpl Adah Michael.
Michael had told the court that the offences contravened sections 97, 342 and 387 of the Penal Code.
The convicts pleaded for leniency, blaming the devil for their action.
They were subsequently fined N5, 000 each for the offence.
The prosecutor had told the court that the cow, belonging to Alhaji Hussein Wakili was recovered from one Alhaji Wasiu Arowosoba on Feb 28, 2015.
Arowosoba informed the police in Kaiama that he bought the cow from Bello at N50, 000 after the convict assured him that the animal belonged to Juli.
Michael had explained that subsequent police investigation revealed that the two convicts conspired to steal the cow. (NAN)
