A former Member of House of Representative, Mr Kehinde Odebunmi, on Monday advised youths in Ekiti to participate actively in sports in order to earn a living from it.
Odebunmi gave the advice while donating sports kits to the state’s U-13 squad that represented Ekiti in the recently concluded U-13 championship in Lagos.
He said the gesture was to encourage youths from the 16 local government areas of the state to engage in sporting activities.
The kits include jerseys, soccer boots, hand gloves, track suits, canvass and socks.
Odebunmi said that apart from academic pursuit, participation in sporting activities was necessary as they could carve a career path from it.
He recalled that the late Oluyemi Kayode, a renowned athlete, was from Ekiti, and started his career as a teenager and won several medals for the country.
“Oluyemi Kayode would not have had Ekiti State Stadium named after him at his tender age if not for his involvement in sports,” he said.
Odebunmi also appealed to parents not to discourage their children from participating in sports whenever they developed interest and stressed that they should be encouraged.
He added that sports had become a lucrative business which Ekiti youths should be allowed to benefit from.
