Hadejia (Jigawa)- Soft drink sellers are making brisk businesses in Hadejia, Jigawa, due to high demand for water, occasioned by the hot weather condition.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the rise in the temperature to over 40 degree Celsius in the past weeks, had exposed the residents to excruciating heat.
The prevailing hot weather condition, coupled with epileptic power supply had made life unbearable for the residents, resulting in significant surge in the demand for soft drinks and cold water.
A survey by NAN showed that the prices of ice block had shot up by about 100 per cent as against its old price.
A small size ice block now sells for N100 as against N40 before the heat.

A sachet of cold water,a can of chilled Maltina and a bottle, which sold for N5, N100 and N70, now sell for N10, N150 and N100.
Some of the vendors, who spoke to NAN, expressed joy over the appreciable patronage .
Ibrahim Usman, a shop keeper, said he was recording high sales due to the excruciating hot weather in the area.
Usman said he sold more than 500 sachets of water daily, as against less than 100 during the harmattan season.
“My sales of water and soft drinks, have increased; I am happy and making good saving,” he said.
Tahir Labaran, a resident, added that he spent about N300 on soft drinks daily.
“I need chilled water to quench my thirst and cool off the heat” Labaran said.
NAN also reports that the hot weather had forced most families to sleep outside, in spite of the ravaging mosquitoes in the area. (NAN)
