Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is convinced that Arsene Wenger still trusts in his abilities despite an injury-hit season.
Wilshere’s last start for the Gunners came back in November, in the 2-1 home defeat to Manchester United, with the England star having struggled with ankle problems for the majority of the 2014-15 campaign.
But the 23-year-old, who came off the bench in Arsenal’s last two fixtures against Hull and Swansea respectively, is determined to make an impact in the club’s final games of the season.
Ahead of Sunday’s trip to Old Trafford, Wilshere told the Gunners’ official club website: “It [the ankle injury he picked up against United back in November] was an injury that I couldn’t do anything about.

“It was a tackle that put me out for four months and it was frustrating but I’ve been there before and I know what it takes to come back from injury, so I know the level you need to get back into the team.
“When you’re out for a long time, the game goes on and the club has to move forward. They’ve been doing great, got the results they needed and are in a great position in the league. It’s tough to get back in but I know the manager trusts me so hopefully I’ll get some more game time this season.”
On facing United, Wilshere added: “The past few years we have been there we have struggled and we can’t hide from that. In the last four or five years we haven’t won there. Winning there in the FA Cup was a big confidence boost for us.
“When we go there on Sunday we know what it will take, we know we can beat them and maybe they might be thinking about that game as well. Hopefully we can repeat that performance.”
