Men of the Ondo State Police Command have rescued a 25-year-old man suspected to be a kidnapper from being killed by a mob in Akure, the state capital.
The suspected kidnapper was about to be set ablaze when the police arrived the scene of the incident and dispersed the crowd. According to an eyewitness’ account, the suspect was arrested by some youths who accused him of trying to lure some kids to his side in an effort to kidnap them under the guise of being a lunatic.
It was gathered that some items were found on the suspect when he was apprehended by the youths. The items include passport-sized photographs of different people, picture of a teenage girl, Tecno brand handset, cash, female dresses as well as Holy Bible and Quran.

The discovery of the items raised suspicion that he might be a kidnapper and not a lunatic as he had claimed. The suspect who was striped naked was beaten and almost set ablaze before the Police rescued him.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the state command, Mr. Wole Ogodo who confirmed the incident explained that the suspect was a psychiatric patient.
Ogodo explained that the parents of the suspect had been contacted and they confirmed that he escaped from a psychiatric hospital in Akure, where he was receiving treatment.
