ONITSHA (ANAMBRA) – The Police have confirmed intercepting a heavy duty vehicle after it rammed into two other vehicles at Onitsha, claiming the lives of three persons and injuring four others.

Mr Rabiu Garba, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Fegge in Onitsha, confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday.
Garba said that the vehicle, with registration number GME 819 XA was intercepted when it was heading to Asaba.
“We have intercepted the trailer and it is in our custody now,’’ Garba said.
He, however, as said that in an attempt to incept the vehicle, the driver abandoned it and ran way.
NAN reports that the incident occurred on Thursday at about 6.30 p.m. at the Upper Iweka axis of Onitsha-Enugu road.
Prof. Peter Katchy, the Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Red Cross Society, who was at the scene, said that the three persons died instantly.
Katchy added that their remains had been taken to the Toronto Hospital Mortuary, Onitsha.
He said that two of the other four persons with serious injuries were taken to New Life Hospital, Fegge, while the other two with minor injury were treated by medical team of the Red Cross.
NAN reports that the latest incident happened just a few metres away from the scene of the May 31 fuel tanker accident which claim 69 lives with over 50 others sustaining injuries. (NAN)
