BWARI (FCT) – The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has urged traditional rulers to always carry along their subjects in decision making on issues that border on security to achieve meaningful growth.
The FCTA Acting Director of Chieftaincy, Mr Jibrin Shaban, gave this advice when he addressed participants at the turbaning of three district heads and one village head in Bwari.

Shaban decried the attitude of traditional leaders, who refused to engage their subjects in decision making processes in their efforts to stem the fight against insecurity in the society.
He said the issue of security was a major challenge that could hinder the growth of communities within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
He, therefore, advised the new traditional leaders to always be cautious of suspicious movements in and out of their domains in order to guard against security breaches.
The director said, “respect yourselves, so that others will respect you; take decisions that will affect everybody, involve them in decision making.
“In community development, we believe in planning together, executing together and programming together, so that everybody will be involved.
“Security is one of the big challenges we have in the FCT; be wary of the visitors coming into your midst and those renting houses. You must scrutinise strangers very well.
“You must be wary of the herdsmen, who are coming into the community.’’
The Esu of Bwari, Mr Ibrahim Yaro, advised the new leaders to always give listening ears to their subjects, and urged them to see themselves as the representatives of the people.
Yaro said, “the new district heads, the village head of Dede community, you are now leaders and everyone belongs to you.
“You have to listen to your people when they come with problems, being their leaders, you have to listen to them and do justice to such problems.”
In a remark, the Chairman of Bwari Area Council, Mr Peter Yohanna, noted that the inauguration of the leaders marked a good development in the local administration.
Yohanna represented by the Speaker of the Bwari Legislature, Mr John Ahmed, advised them to see their new status as a call to serve their people.
He urged them to be dedicated to promote peaceful co-existence in Bwari, noting that the importance of the traditional rulers in promoting peace among the people could not be over emphasised.
The high point of the event was the award of certificates to Alhaji Adamu Diga and Mr Abdullahi Madaki, as District Heads of Katampe and Jibi communities, respectively.
Also, there was the award of a certificate to Malam Saidu Sani, who was elevated from Acting Village Head to become Village Head of Dede community.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event attracted stakeholders from the FCTA, the Nigerian Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp and staff of the Bwari council secretariat. (NAN)
