ILORIN – Catholic Laity Council of Nigeria (CLCN) has reiterated its condemnation of abortion under any guise in the country.
The Laity restated its position in a communiqué issued at the end of the 131st National Executive Council (NEC) meeting at St Joseph’s Cathedral, Ilorin, on Monday.
The communiqué was jointly signed by Mr Chizoba Nnagboh and Idonin Anthony, CLCN President and Secretary respectively.
The council, in a seven-point communiqué condemned what it termed an international conspiracy and the use of euphemisms such as women’s reproductive rights in place of abortion, contraceptives and sterilisation.
“We uphold the teaching of the church on the protection and sanctity of human life as against the re-definition of family, life and marriage in the international domain.”
According to the communiqué, the council identified with the missionary mandate of the holy Church.
It commended the executive committee for the proposed formation and training of the faithful for the task of propagating the Catholic faith.

The communiqué resolved that Christians must be agents of change as the country cannot be free of corruption by the efforts of the government alone, but by collective efforts.
To address the problem of unemployment in the country, the council called governments at all levels to focus more attention on vocational education as against over reliance on paper qualification.
It congratulated the people of Nigeria for the success of the 2015 general elections.
“We commend the heroic gesture of former President Goodluck Jonathan in conceding defeat even before the official announcement of the results,” the communiqué stated.
It further President Muhammadu Buhari on his election and prayed for his success in office. (NAN)
