NWF says its waiting for NSC to sanction participation in world wrestling championships in Rumania

LAGOS – The Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) on Tuesday appealed to the National Sports Commission (NSC) to urgently respond to its request to attend the upcoming International Wrestling Championships in Bucharest, Rumania.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the championship would hold from July 17 to July 20 in the Eastern European country.
The NWF’s Secretary, Segun Oguntade, said that an early response from the nation’s regulatory sports body would enable the federation to prepare adequately for the championships.
“We have written to the NSC, but are yet to get a reply from them. Early reply will serve as a directive for us on the next line of action to take.
“Our fingers are crossed for now, but we are optimistic that we will get a positive reply to the letter written to them,’’ he said.
Oguntade told NAN that participation in the tournament would assist the federation in its selection process for the forthcoming All Africa Games in Congo Brazzaville.

He stressed that the competition would afford the NWF the opportunity to assess its players and to know those that have been diligent to its training programmes.
“It’s a good avenue to evaluate our players, while competing with other countries. We will observe their lapses and correct them when we get home,’’Oguntade said. (NAN)
