BERLIN – A German domestic intelligence report said on Tuesday that Islamist terror threat in Europe would continue to grow provided the Islamic State extremist group maintains control over its so-called caliphate in Syria and Iraq.

“The military successes of the Islamic State and the proclamation of the caliphate have led to a new dimension in the terrorist threat,” the 2014 report by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution said.
According to the report, if the militia manages to establish itself in the longer term, global jihad or holy war would have a “logistical centre” for the coordination of complex attacks, the report said.
“The proclamation of the caliphate and the military successes of the Islamic State are creating an atmosphere of euphoria among European jihadists, resulting in a constantly rising wave of support for the terrorists”, it said.
It also found that the number of right-wing extremists in Germany had fallen in 2014, but attacks by these groups on refugee accommodation and xenophobic rhetoric against these facilities had risen. (dpa/NAN)
